Who are the Peter Donegan Band?
A new band has exploded onto the scene, led by a great talent - Peter Donegan.
'Defying a simple musical genre pigeonhole, the Peter Donegan Band grabbed
the crowd from the first song and never let go..'
The surname is no doubt familiar to the thousands of fans of the late, great "King of Skiffle" Lonnie Donegan, whose musical influence shaped the careers of many of today's top artists. Peter is Lonnie Donegan's son and he has inherited his father's musical talents, but has his own unique sound. He is an accomplished pianist and guitarist, and also plays banjo and harmonica.
Peter's great love for music, and his obviously developing talent, led his father to include him in his band as keyboard player and vocalist. Peter went on the last tour with his father as part of his band, playing with, among others, the legendary Van Morrison.
At the sell-out tribute to Lonnie Donegan at the Royal Albert Hall, Peter performed with - and backed - some of the greats of today:- Mark Knopfler, Joe Cocker, Roger Daltrey, Van Morrison and many more who were paying their musical respects to their great mentor.
Peter has now formed his own band who perform a celebration of his father's music done in their own inimitable style, as well as Peter's own songs.
Imagine a melting-pot of electric and acoustic guitars, drums, banjo, piano, bass, fiddle & accordion, bringing rock and roll back to its’ roots... and you’re part-way there.
The band performed, to great acclaim, at a number of festivals and theatres in 2007 including the Americana International Festival in Newark, Towersey Folk Festival, Polesden Lacey Proms in the Park, The Sage Gateshead, Portsmouth’s Live at the Bandstand festival, The Mouth of the Tyne Festival in North Tyneside and the Snape Proms, Aldeburgh.
Their debut CD Live at the Elephant has been released to great acclaim on RGF Records.
